How merchants can write coupon offers people actually redeem

A useful coupon tells customers what they receive, what they need to buy and how to redeem it. Put those facts together before writing the promotional headline. A customer should be able to decide whether the offer fits their visit without asking the cashier to explain missing conditions.

Start with one clear benefit

Choose a benefit that is easy to describe and easy for staff to apply. Keep the headline focused on that benefit, then explain the qualifying purchase directly below it. Words such as “selected” or “up to” need an explanation of which items qualify and what determines the benefit.

The following are planning examples, rather than a list of currently available B-ticket promotions:

  • Percentage discount: identify the eligible products or services and state any limit on the discount.
  • Fixed amount off: explain the qualifying purchase and any minimum spend.
  • Complimentary item: name the item and the purchase required to receive it.
  • Bundle or upgrade: list what the customer receives and which options are included.

Write conditions people can check before ordering

A headline and its terms should describe the same offer. If the benefit applies to selected items or a particular branch, make that restriction visible beside the benefit. Avoid a broad headline followed by conditions that change its meaning.

Before publishing, check that the offer explains:

  • The exact benefit and eligible purchase.
  • The participating branch or branches.
  • The validity period and any applicable days or times.
  • Any minimum spend, exclusions or booking requirement.
  • Whether the offer can be combined with another promotion.
  • How the customer presents or applies the coupon.

Include a condition only when it actually applies. Confirm unclear requirements with the people who will accept the coupon.

Explain the redemption step

B-ticket’s public FAQ tells customers to select an offer and show the digital coupon at the partner merchant, or apply the code at checkout when that method is provided. Use instructions that match the particular offer. A counter offer should explain what to show staff; an online offer should identify the relevant checkout step.

Keep access requirements clear too. Browsing and claiming coupons are free, while deals marked Subscriber Offer require an active B-ticket subscription. Describe the applicable requirement without implying that every offer has the same eligibility.

Review the offer with your counter team

Ask a staff member to explain the offer back using only its published wording. Check whether they can identify an eligible purchase, the correct branch and the redemption step. Resolve differences before customers arrive.

For the platform’s current general rules, read the B-ticket FAQ. For help with a merchant enquiry or unclear listing, contact B-ticket. Clear terms give customers and staff the same information at the point of redemption.
